FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When is a dental crown necessary?
A crown is recommended when a tooth is significantly weakened and a standard filling cannot provide sufficient strength. The most common situations include: a tooth after root canal treatment (without a nerve it becomes more brittle), very large cavities affecting more than half of the tooth crown, cracks and fractures, and severe tooth wear. A crown “armors” the tooth, protecting it from breaking during chewing.
A bridge is a structure supported by the teeth adjacent to the gap – these teeth are prepared (reshaped) and covered with crowns, with an artificial tooth placed between them. An implant is an independent solution – a titanium screw inserted into the bone that does not require intervention in healthy neighboring teeth. Additionally, an implant prevents bone loss, while under a bridge the bone gradually resorbs due to the lack of mechanical stimulation.

The timeline depends on the type of restoration. A single crown usually requires 2 visits within 2–3 days: tooth preparation, digital scan, crown fabrication in the laboratory, and crown placement. A bridge requires slightly more time. Implant restorations take longer because the implant must first heal and integrate with the bone (3–6 months) before the crown is placed. Removable dentures also require several visits and adjustments.

A full-ceramic crown (e.g., zirconia) is made entirely of ceramic, without a metal substructure. It provides superior aesthetics – no metal line at the gum margin and natural translucency similar to a real tooth. A metal-ceramic crown has a metal core covered with ceramic – it is durable, but the metal may show through, especially near the gum line. Full ceramic is the standard in the aesthetic zone (front teeth).
Yes, dentures require daily care. They should be cleaned with a special brush and paste (or solution); regular toothpaste should not be used, as it may scratch the material. Dentures should be removed at night and stored in a dedicated container. Regular dental check-ups are also important, as over time the denture may require relining due to changes in the gums and bone.
